UMNG / Student Exchange

Student Exchange

UMNG

General Objective

The International Relations Advisory Office is a specialized unit responsible for leading, promoting, and implementing strategies that seamlessly integrate the international dimension across the University’s core institutional functions, thereby consolidating the institution’s internationalization process in coordination with various internal offices.

Furthermore, it oversees promoting and operating international student exchange programs at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as executing academic collaboration agreements with higher education institutions from other countries. It also assists in planning and developing strategies to strengthen academic cooperation and the internationalization of UMNG with higher education institutions, diplomatic delegations, academic cooperation networks, associations, and public and private organizations, both national and foreign.

In order to materialize academic cooperation projects, internationalize UMNG’s academic programs, and provide study opportunities and foreign academic activities for the Neo-Granadan community, the International Relations Office manages an internationalization mega-project, which is executed through an internationalization plan structured around three core pillars:

Academic Mobility Modalities

The UMNG exchange program is structurally divided into two main areas:

  • Outgoing Mobility (UMNG students going abroad): Applies to both undergraduate and postgraduate (master’s) levels. It allows students to take courses valid for their curriculum, participate in summer courses (such as those at the University of Lima or the University of Alcalá in Spain), and even choose international options to fulfill their graduation requirements.
  • Incoming Mobility (International students at UMNG): The university hosts exchange students from countries such as France, Mexico, Chile, and Peru. It also manages the Visiting Professor Program, research internships for international scholars, and specialized summer schools (e.g., in Operational Law and Industry 4.0).

Key Benefits and Advantages

Participating in an exchange program through the International Relations Office (ORII, by its Spanish acronym) offers key competitive and institutional advantages:

  • International Tuition Waiver: Neo-Granadan students continue to pay their regular tuition fees at UMNG and are exempt from paying academic costs at the host university.
  • Financial Incentive: The university grants a living allowance stipend to selected students for their mobility abroad, subject to budget availability for each fiscal year.
  • Guaranteed Credit Transfer: Prior to departure, a credit validation plan is established and endorsed by the dean’s office to ensure that courses taken abroad are recognized, preventing any delays in the student’s graduation.

General Application Requirements (Outgoing Mobility)

Undergraduate students wishing to participate in international calls for applications must meet an excellence profile:

  • Academic Performance: Possess a Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA / PGA) equal to or higher than 3.8 (for certain specific faculties, the minimum required is 3.5).
  • Language Proficiency: If the destination is a non-Spanish-speaking country, a certification of proficiency in the language required by the host university must be presented (ranging from A1 to C2, depending on the case).
  • Institutional Endorsement: Hold an application form signed and approved by both the Program Director and the Dean of the corresponding Faculty.

Cooperation Network: UMNG maintains active agreements with prestigious institutions across the Americas and Europe (with strong ties in Spain and France), facilitating cultural exchange, bilingualism, career adaptability, and the creation of international networking opportunities for its graduates.
